Significance of Race â€Å"Hey!† I scream out as my white neighbor passes by in his freshly waxed sports car. I can still see the scene playing in my head of him looking at me and throwing the middle finger while sticking out his tongue. The state of shock I stood there in as the pain showed all over my face, as he sped off laughing. I stand there in complete disbelief thinking of maybe what I could have done to make him react this way to me for just being friendly. Then my answer came to be maybe it is because I am black. I grew up in a predominantly black neighborhood in Jackson, Mississippi where everyone was more like family than neighbors. Here I was not really exposed to the opposite race but knew that I was to use the same manners†¦show more content†¦After sitting here for a while it hit me that we were the only black family on the street. Days went by after my realization, and I started to witness that these people who did not look like me were not as embracing as the people from my old community. Eventually I came to terms that maybe my neighbors were acting this way towards me and my family because we were new on the block and they did not know us, although totally different from my former neighbors. I later began pushing the way my community treated my family to the back of my mind. Doing this allowed me to become more comfortable being around individuals who were white. Then in the mix of me trying to adapt to my new neighborhood is when I was involved in the horrible incident with my fellow white neighbor. This allowed me to see that the reason that my neighbors treated me the way they did was not because I was new to the community but because of racial issues with people of color. I discussed the situation with my mother and she explained to me the race issue and that sometime people could do ignorant things, but that I must never let the actions of one person affect the way I treated or felt towards someone because everyone is not the same as that ma n. Khaled Hosseini and Arundhati Roy’s novels are devised in such a way that the plot structures are exact parallels. Thus, they can successfully use the same plot structure to portray two divergent effects of losing one’s innocence in a traumatic event. The plot structure of the novels also reinforces the idea of innocence. The plot structure for The Kite Runner is chronological, but the plot structure for The God of Small Things is circular. In his novel, The Kite Runner, Hosseini begins to dive into the distinction by beginning the novel with introducing the main character, Amir, and his friend Hassan. Hosseini makes sure to note that the two boys are from different religious clans, and so their friendship is looked down upon. As a result, Arundhati Roy uses this to reinforce the idea of a circular plot structure, where the characters are unable to break fr ee of the cycle. As an author, Khaled Hosseini clearly describes Amir’s journey and his reactions to specific events throughout the novel, crafting his responses in clever ways. Arundhati Roy also employs the same technique in her novel, choosing to use a similar plot structure, but having the characters react differently to the scenarios they face. In his movie he shows you how some glaciers from 1990 till now are fully melted and turning to land or how they are slowly becoming heated. In my case everyone should know that it’s bad and it will only become worse. Another way is how the water temperature is starting to rise. If any hurricanes or water storms were to be created; it would be double the effect because as also stated in Al Gore’s video whenever you have a high water temperature it will increase the wind velocity in any storm making it bigger in size. With that said we can move on to diseases that are another way the truth of global warming is inconvenient. Diseases are a strong life taker and have a long history behind it. The way global warming comes in is that we had some strange heat waves that occurred and caused illness towards people. In 2012 we broke the record for the hottest heat wave. It affected many people through sickness and other different ways. In a previous article I read in class they said that in 2003 a deadly heat wave swept across Europe killing an estimated amount of 35,00 people. Heat waves like that could amp up heat-related illness.
